“This one (and almost every one of my Instagram photos) was taken with my iPhone 5s with some “Insta-editing.” I love taking photos with my phone because I can quickly capture simple, little moments that make me smile. I’m a Buffalo transplant and I enjoy surprising my friends and family with gems of my experience thus far in Buffalo—my #buffalife. This photo of the amazing Eric Borketey Ansuade and part of the incredibly talented Slyboots Drum Ensemble during the Slow Roll Buffalo afterparty on Monday at the Essex Arts Center is just one example.

I’m amazed at the ongoing growth and success of the Slow Roll as the weeks go by. The Roll is particularly inclusive of all ages and experience of cyclists to join the ride, and the energy from the group is empowering. Hopefully this photo captures some of the whimsy and positivity that exudes from these events! The pairing of the Slow Roll and Slyboots School of Music, Art, and Dance was perfect—both organizations working in the community to inspire positive social change here in Buffalo. It’s special to feel like we can be a part of that change. If you missed the Slow Roll, join up this Monday, August 31 at 464 Gallery in Black Rock! If you missed Slyboots, don’t worry Slyfest 10 is September 5 and 6 at Griffis Sculpture Park!”

“My name is Stephen Neil and I started @buffadrone to share a fresh angle on some of the beautiful parts of Buffalo that can only be seen from the sky. That particular picture was taken from 275 feet in the air over a very small boat harbor with a DJI Phantom 3 Professional. The harbor is located to the left of the abandoned grain elevator by Gallagher Beach. The boats you see are a majority of what was out there, so I framed the shot appropriately. From the air, the water was surprisingly clear for the area as I was looking down upon it from the live feed that streams to my mobile device. In the shot, I believe you are seeing mostly sea weed and light reflecting at a surface level, but definitely some clarity in areas. I would love to say that the water is completely clear to the bottom but I believe that effect is given by a mix of the height that the shot was taken, the lighting, and post-processing.”

“This shot was taken this past Saturday night. My wife Meg (@mydarlingone) and I had made plans to meet a friend we made through Instagram, Dan (@justdan2275). We started at Gene McCarthys for some beers and burgers. I really enjoyed the Sacre Bleu (blueberry beer) and the Reuben I ordered. Super fun place to hang out. Anyway, we decided to head out with our cameras and see what we could shoot. A few blocks away, we found ourselves at Red Jacket Park. I had been there to shoot during the day a few times but never at night so we were excited when Dan told us trains pass over the bridges every 20 to 30 minutes. Hoping to get some longexposure train light trails coupled with the reflection and the stars, we set up our cameras on the boat (kayak?) launch area at the park.

After a very boisterous beaver crashed through the weeds and down into the water, we set up our tripods and got to work taking some long exposure shots. Focused on the wrong bridge, (there are three altogether), I missed the first train that went through. It was a beautiful night so we decided to stick it out and wait for the next one. As I was setting up to make sure I got the next train, a helicopter, and a few planes flew through my test shots. For this shot, the pilot banked the plane hard to his right in order to land at the airport. I was lucky to capture it and certainly didn’t expect it. I took awhile but I did manage to capture a train crossing the bridge and that turned out pretty cool as well. All-in-all, it was a great Saturday night out in Buffalo.”

“Hi, Neil Patrick here. I’m a Brussels Griffon who loves many things. Ties are a must, peeing on as my trees as I can, and stopping for coffe. Don’t worry I don’t actually drink it, I just sniff it. Oh, and I love getting beard scratches! That’s how it got so long ;)”
