Infringement Spotlight: Jay Aquarious

by / Jul. 25, 2015 1am EST

Name: Jordan Cooper, also known as Jay Aquarious of Hooked on Casiophonics

 Age: 22

Describe what you will do this year as part of Infringement Festival.
I will be performing solo and with my group. As a solo act I’ll be singing, dancing, and even rapping every now then. Some of the material is original, some are covers, and some will be meshed into medleys—more pop, R&B, soul, and hip hop-based. With my group, I will still be singing but rapping a lot more. It’ll be more EDM-based with them—but there’s still R&B, hip hop, and soul.

What inspires you to create your art?
Clarity is what inspires me to do art. Just the fact that I know I can do it, it’s in me, and that it actually helps me express myself.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve done in the name of art?
The strangest thing I’ve done…hmmm…I’m still getting my feet wet in that department. I think going into the crowd when performing every now and then. It’s thrilling for me, and I believe for the crowd as well because I don’t believe they expect it to be so live.

Describe your favorite Infringement moment in past years events.
My favorite past Buffalo Infringement Festival moment (and my only moment) was when they were having the last parade in 2014. I just got out from where I live to see a whole band of people I already know and am bound to know in the future. I spotted RockNutz from a far, smiling and shaking the maracas. He spotted me as well and said that I could join. In the spur of the moment, I did. I clapped my hands and came up with chants as we marched. So many instruments, such a diversity of people, it made me more proud to be in this area than I already was. It was such a live moment!
