GreenWatch: Elk County, Pennsylvania

by / Jul. 5, 2015 6am EST

Elk County, Pennsylvania is named for the Eastern elk that historically inhabited the region, before being driven into extinction by hunting and deforestation in the mid-18th century. In 1913, the state began to reintroduce elk to the region, importing the animals from Yellowstone National Park.
