Buffalo Ugly
There is a huge gorgeous house on the corner of Nottingham and Lincoln Parkway on the north side of Delaware Park. It faces a slice of the park, just east of the Buffalo History Museum, and the 198.
It used to be owned by the owner of a suburban strip joint who, a few years ago, got into some kind of switch and decided to move out of town. I don’t know who owns it now.
I have occasion to drive that road on a regular basis. In the past few months I’ve seen work crews digging ditches about the entire property. In the past few weeks, I’ve seen masons setting concrete footings that were maybe two feet wide on either side. Scores of them.
Today I saw what all that trenching and footing was about. It is perhaps the ugliest wrought iron fence in the entire city. Only two pieces are up. I’m sure the rest will be up in the next week or two. It perfectly isolates the house from the neighborhood, blocks the view from the house of the park, and the house from the road. And it says to the city, “Fuck you. We’re here behind our ornate spiked fence.”
