by / Apr. 13, 2016 7am EST

Sara M. Zak is a painter, sculptor, installation artist, educator, and community arts organizer who lives in East Aurora. She holds a BFA in Painting and a BA in Art History (2000, summa cum laude), as well as a 2009 MS in Multidisciplinary Studies (Fine Arts, English, and Education), all from the State University of New York College at Buffalo. Her oil paintings, which have been exhibited widely throughout Western New York, often explore what she calls “the shifting nature of time, place, and paint.” Zak is a member of the Buffalo Society of Artists and a past board member of the organization. In 2011, she founded the activist art initiative Painting for Preservation and continues to play a key role with the group. She also teaches painting workshops throughout the region. Her work is currently on view in the phone booth gallery inside the Hydraulic Hearth Restaurant & Brewery through the end of April.

“Artists Seen: Photographs of Artists in the 21st Century” is an ongoing project by photographer David Moog in partnership with the Burchfield Penney Art Center at SUNY Buffalo State. Moog has set out to make portraits of every self-identified working artist and arts professional in Western New York. To be included in the project, call David Moog directly at 716-472-6721 or contact The Center at 716-878-4131. Artists working in all media are welcome; visit burchfieldpenney.org for more information.
