The Public’s weekly local music reviews and previews.

 Single:  “Graduation Day” by Dreambeaches

Recommended if You Like:  Animal Collective, Atlas Sound, Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Dreambeaches is a Buffalo-based indie rock band lead by Corey Bzibizik. This week the band released “Graduation Day,” the first single from their upcoming album Habits. The Animal Collective-esque dream-pop track combines huge banging beats with dreamy vocals, and the occasional crunchy guitar solo.

Album:  Queen City Tuesday by Bold Folly

RIYL:  Beck, Grateful Dead, Mac DeMarco

Landing somewhere between the Grateful Dead and Beck, or maybe newer punk and 1990s grunge, Bold Folly is somewhat bi-polar on their debut EP Queen City Tuesday. One moment a soft and twangy lullaby, the next a grunge band off the leash, Bold Folly’s latest record is a record for an epic chill sesh in a postered-up dank basement or for posting up with a joint in a gazebo. Highlights include “Self MD” which features a fat distorted bassline and psyche-rock guitars. The four-song EP produced by Andrew Esposito makes it clear that Bold Folly are on the road to perfecting their psyched-out garage rock sound.
