Your weekly rundown from the Buffalo Niagara Brewers Association on what’s happening locally in the beer scene.

 St. Patrick’s Happy Hour
March 17, Resurgence Brewing, 1250 Niagara St, Buffalo, 5-7pm

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the Buffalo Beer League, the enthusiast arm of the Buffalo Niagara Brewers Association, as they kick off their Happy Hour series at Resurgence Brewing on March 17, 5-7pm. They’ll be on hand selling tickets to the Brewers Invitational, which takes place April 2 at Pettibones, and will also be raffling off a free pair of tickets for the festival those on hand. Grab a pint of RBC’s Chipotle Cinnamon Stout and be Irish for the day! The BBL will next be at Flying Bison on March 25.

 42 North Brewing’s Enforcer
25 Pine St, East Aurora

Reminiscent of hooligans wielding bats with good or bad intentions, depending on your perspective, 42 North Brewing’s Enforcer is a Double IPA on a mission. Hopped with an alphabet soup of bitterness and citrus, the Enforcer takes the palate to task, clocking in at 105 IBUs, but it is less bitter than the measurement betrays. The DIPA packs a heavy punch at 10% ABV, so this is a fantastic sipper designed to delight even the most discerning hop enthusiast. Enforcer will be released at Pizza Plant (Canalside), Lockhouse Distillery and Ballyhoo on 3/16, but is available in 42 North’s East Aurora taproom today.

 Thin Man Brewery

The landscape of Buffalo beer is changing as long-time Community Beer Works brewing maven Robert “Rudybob” Watkins is transitioning to Thin Man Brewery, Mike Shatzel’s upcoming Elmwood brewery/restaurant (492 Elmwood, formerly Faherty’s and Toro), where he will assume the head brewer position, the same position he held at CBW since their inception in April 2012. In his place, Robert Turley Jr., who currently runs CBW’s brewing operations at Hydraulic Health, will head up brewing at all of CBW’s locations, including their future brewery at Jersey and 7th streets.

Local Beers for St. Patrick’s Day

As St. Patrick’s Day descends upon our region, there are plenty of locally produced craft beers to satiate your imbibing needs. Whether you’re hitting a parade—the Old First Ward Parade on March 19 or the Buffalo St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 20—or bellying up to the bar at your favorite pub like Founding Fathers, D’Arcy McGee’s Irish Pub, and Gene McCarthy’s, there’s scads of good local beer to wet your whistle. To name a few, there’s Hamburg Brewing’s Irish Red, Big Ditch Brewing’s Galaxy Red, New York Beer Project’s Red Eye to Dublin Irish Red and I’m Dead Sexy Scottish Export, Pan American’s Roosevelt Red, 12 Gates Bleeding Heart Hoppy Red Ale, and Rusty Nickel’s Milk Chocolate Stout. Sláinte!
