Artists Seen: Gaitrie Devi

Gaitrie Devi is a dancer, choreographer, and educator. Born in Guyana, South America, she was raised in the Bronx before attending the University at Buffalo. She graduated from UB in 2006 with a BA in psychology and communication, while simultaneously studying Bollywood style dance in New York City under the artistic direction of Pooja Narang at Bollywood Axion. She performed with Narang’s troupe before joining Payal Kadakia’s Sa Dance Company in 2009. She made Buffalo her home again in 2012 and launched her own company and school, Devi Bollywood Dance, the following year. She is also a teaching artist with Young Audiences of WNY. Devi studies and performs contemporary, folk, and modern dance as well as Bharatanatyam (Indian classical dance) and yoga.
