Album: Vol. III by Hymns

Recommended if you like: David Lynch, Brian Eno

A new record from Buffalo based musicians Nate Ward and Jesse Kaufman titled Vol.III was released under their alias HYMNS this week. The record was recorded in “a very cold barn” in December and features two tracks of eerie, atmospheric ambient music. The tracks, each clocking in at over 20 minutes in length, feature a mix of warped samples, found sounds, feedback, and instrumentation. Listen for free on Bandcamp.

Album: God Save the Queen 4 by Mic Excel and Mario Bee

Recommended if you like: Lil B, A$AP Rocky, Yung Lean

Mic Excel and Mario Bee released the fourth installment of their God Save the Queen series last month. The record opens with a brief lo-fi sample of God Save the Queen by the Sex Pistols before moving into ultra bass-y trap music. The 10 minute and 25 second long record moves through a few segments, from more minimal verses to laidback stoner hip hop punctuated by sometimes funny, sometimes strange interludes.
