Single: “Daughter Drowning in the Black River” by uncertain

Recommended if you like: Throbbing Gristle, the Gerogerigegege, Facialmess

Last month, Buffalo ambient-noise artist uncertain released a track titled “Daughter Drowning in the Black River.” The track is an excerpt from an unreleased project still in production. The cataclysmic soundscape moves through nine minutes and 25 seconds of relentless waves of industrial dissonance before gradually resolving into a broken bell melody. In a statement accompanying the piece, the artist indicates that the track was written in “Hypermixolydian,” a medieval mode of church music.

Demo: “Dark Blue” by THIS

Recommended if you like: The White Stripes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, PJ Harvey

The latest demo from Buffalo alt rock band THIS, titled “Dark Blue,” was released on the band’s Soundcloud page late last month. The song is a stripped-back, slow-burning alternative rock jam. The song focuses on the strained, soulful vocals of lead singer, Hayley, which are accompanied by ultra-fuzzy guitar riffage.
