[POP PUNK] Pop-punk band Real Friends like to keep it simple. “I don’t think that songwriting should have to be this big, well thought out thing,” said bassist and songwriter Kyle Fasel in an interview with The Public in 2014. “One thing we built our whole band on was being honest.” Those two sentiments come across on the band’s latest album The Home Inside My Head, released on the alternative rock record label, Fearless Records in 2016. Though the music might be “simple”—driving pop punk guitars and bass matched with emo lyrics—it’s mysteriously hard to imitate; not every small town band that tries can pull it off and still sound sincere. Real Friends manage to do it seemingly effortlessly, though. Catch Real Friends at the Waiting Room on Sunday, June 4 with support from Have Mercy, Tiny Moving Parts, Broadside, and Nothing Nowhere.
