Datsik

[ELECTRONIC/DANCE] “Dupstep is totally the punk rock of electronic music,” says producer Troy Beetles, better known as Datsik. He views dubstep, like punk rock, as not only as an amalgamation of various styles of music—in this case U.K. garage, hip hop, and drum n’ bass—but as a form of hardcore music that is crafted by intuition and feeling rather than virtuosity. Datsik began releasing music in 2009, exploding out of the gate with remixes of Diplo and Wu Tang Clan tracks, and scoring several Beatport number one releases. In 2014 the 26-year-old Canadian musician released his latest EP, Down 4 My Ninjas, a combination of interstellar dubstep beats and rap (see “Get Smashed” featuring DJ Paul K.O.M. of Three 6 Mafia), and trapezing laser-guided bass drops (“When They Drop”). Datsik comes to the Town Ballroom on Wednesday, January 28 with Kennedy Jones, Trolley Snatcha, and Barely Alive.
