Studio: Donika Kelly, Matthew Klane, James Belflower, and Eve Williams

[POETRY] Just Buffalo Literary Center’s feature author series Studio is starting its 2016-17 calendar with a bang and a whimper with poet Donika Kelly. A newly appointed professor at St. Bonaventure University, the reading will be a WNY welcome for Kelly, whose work in recent years has garnered her the Cave Canem Poetry Prize and a deal with the publisher Graywolf for a forthcoming collection of poems—Bestiary—that already has been placed on the longlist for the National Book Award. Joining Kelly will be old Buffalo friend Matthew Klane with his fellow Albany collaborator James Belflower with a dual performance. Klane made a mark on local listeners when he lived in Buffalo a decade ago with mesmerizing performances often weaving in historical or journalistic texts, will be joined by the talents of Belflower—also an accomplished poet—with digital projection, music, and their poems. Rounding out the bill is Buffalo friend and neighbor Eve Williams, an artist immersed in the tradition of African American poetry and spoken word.
