Rival Sons
[ROCK] Not just anybody gets to open for Black Sabbath on their final tour, and Long Beach’s Rival Sons have a lot to be thankful for. But the Sabbath swan song slot is really just one more feather in the cap of a band that can’t seem to do wrong, dropping five consistently well received albums, all produced by Dave Cobb, that have difficult to impress folks like Henry Rollins (and Ozzy) tripping over themselves to offer praise. Out in late spring, Hollow Bones is just as solid as its predecessors, pushing the Sons’ heavy blues hammer toward a soulful epiphany (they cover Ike & Tina’s “Black Coffee” much in the spirit of Humble Pie’s version) while also managing to top Billboard’s Heatseekers chart (as did their previous release, Great Western Valkyrie). This is paradise for anyone that’s ever wished the Black Keys would rock a little more like Zeppelin. Saturday, August 20 at Town Ballroom, doors are at 7pm.
