[EXPERIMENTAL FILM] On his website, Squeaky Wheel’s July artist-in-residence Carl Elsaesser admits, “I think for a bit now I’ve been trying to fuck over traditional notions of beauty, narrative representation and aesthetics of the self or personal within moving image work.” Fair enough. Currently an MFA student in the University of Iowa’s Cinematic Arts program, Elsaesser comes eqipped with a powerful “slant” version of storytelling, picking up pieces of life events like a grandfather’s death, homosexuality, and nuclear bombs and inserting them into the poetic line possible in six- or ten- or fifteen-minute movies.
