Soldadera at Squeaky, More at CEPA
[ART] The events of a hundred years ago present the backdrop of the internationally known artist Nao Bustamante’s East Coast debut this Friday, September 18 at Squeaky Wheel. The exhibit—Soldadera—was inspired by the women who fought during the Mexican Revolution (1910-20). Her varied work encompasses performance art, video installation, visual art, filmmaking, and writing, and as the New York Times has observed, “She has a knack for using her body.” The opening will accompanied by a panel discussion at 8pm with special guest, Cornell University professor of Latino/a Studies Ella Diaz. While down in Market Arcade, stop by the opening at the neighboring CEPA gallery which will be exhibiting new work from Gregory Halpern, Ahndraya Parlato, and Nicholas Mueller.
