Six Reasons to Check Out The Public Presents
The Public Presents, our monthly concert showcase at Nietzsche’s, continues this Thursday, September 17 with a solid lineup of underground bands. Like a Panther, Bold Folly, Black Nurse Milk, and Lava Hips will take the stage starting at around 8:30pm. Here are six reasons to check out The Public Presents,

1. Indie rock band Like a Panther are going to put on an experiment. For this show the band will be pared down to a duo which will do a few originals mixed in with some of their favorite, fairly obscure covers. That list of covers may or may not include “Slow Down” by the Jam, a band which Like a Panther’s Brett Smith claims are their “hair heroes right now.” |

2. If you wear your favorite wig, we’ll let you in for less than half price—$2. Marge Simpson, Billy Idol, and Hulk Hogan are recommended wig styles, but anything will do. |

3. For a fairly new band, Lava Hips have their stuff together. Their weirdo-pop rock songs that fall somewhere between Ariel Pink and the Grateful Dead, should make for perfect music to drink and sway your hips to. |

4. Bold Folly are coming all the way up from Fredonia to play this show. Which means that you should leave your house on Elmwood and walk to Nietzsche’s to see this duo perform their brand of dreamy indie-pop. |

5. Black Nurse Milk, a band that you’ve never heard of—because they’ve formed specifically for this show—will probably freak you out and make you want to leave. Power through that urge though, because for one night only, the band will be composing the score to their fantasy-horror film Blood is Cake Frosting live on stage as they perform. ”Orally consumed psychedelics won’t suffice,” a member of the band informed me. “Make sure the audience knows that they’ll need to drop them in the eye.” |

6. This is your chance to finally get rid of that old dented guitar that you never use, yet still managed to put a dent in somehow. As always, the Good Neighborhod will spot your cost of admission if you donate a used musical instrument to Music is Art. |
