[JAM] Featured as one of Relix Magazine’s “On The Verge” artists, Buffalo’s homegrown jam quartet, Aqueous, returns to the scene of the crime for a New Year’s Eve show at Town Ballroom that will surely be a festive display of grooving goodness. It’s a tough balancing act, being progressive and accessible at the same time—miraculously, Aqueous manages. The band’s studio output, which will comprise set one, is a showcase for the rhythmic undercurrent that makes Aqueous’s music so infectious, but fans have insisted from the get-go that it barely scratches the surface of what they’re capable of on stage – a format that allows them to stretch out and follow one another down the rabbit hole. The second set will feature the music of Gorillaz that – fingers crossed – would make Damon Albarn proud (we make no promises, but stranger things have happened). Whether there will be costumes or masks involved remains to be seen, but it’s New Years Eve after all: time to get down and get freaky. Shape-shifting openers Lazlo Hollyfield have recently performed as Talking Heads and Arcade Fire – who knows what they have in store for this holiday blowout.
