Gary Allan

[COUNTRY] Twenty years ago when country began it’s painful transition to what it is now, Gary Allan was there—which means that his early material actually resembles real country music. Serendipity struck early, but Allan rejected an offer from A&M to finish schooling. Decca ended up releasing his debut in 1996, and Allan has stayed plenty active since then. In the interim, his music has morphed with the times to some degree, but he’s stayed truer to a genuine country-western musical footing than many of his contemporaries and tends toward an honest rasp, vocally, rather than the pitch-controlled showboating that characterizes so much commercial radio. He’s amassed quite a fan base through the years as well, scoring three gold and three platinum albums while releasing more than 25 singles — four of them hit #1 and seven others penetrated the Billboard Top 10. His latest album was ready for release last year, but EMI has held it back—who knows, maybe Allan will decide to go indie and put it out himself. Meanwhile, he’s at the Seneca Niagara Casino Events Center on Saturday, November 25 for a show that’ll cover his best known self-penned material as well as his popular covers of songs by Waylon Jennings and Vertical Horizon. Who knows, he might even do a Soundgarden tune. 8:00 p.m.
