Longing for the Bomb

[LIT] A generation after renegade poet Charles Bukowski said “let’s let the bombs go, I’m tired of waiting,” Buffalo State sociologist Lindsey A.Freeman is releasing a book that delves into the ghosts of the atomic age through the lens of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. One of the three principal sites for the Manhattan project, Oak Ridge is a town created by the US government exclusively for the purposes of developing the bomb, and by blending ethnography with historiography, Longing for the Bomb is about more than whatever happened at Oak Ridge, it’s about our love and fear of the doomsday weapon. Freeman will read from the book this Thursday, November 5 at 7:30 at Talking Leaves on Main Street.
