Leon Russell
[ROCK] A songwriting and session legend, Leon Russell, now 73, has played on a mind-boggling list of records, some of which you probably own. Perhaps best known as a musician for his gospel-infused piano style, Russell penned “Superstar” (made famous by The Carpenters), “A Song for You” (Donny Hathaway), “This Masquerade” (George Benson), “Shine a Light” (Rolling Stones)—and his own top 10 hit, “Tight Rope.” He worked extensively with Joe Cocker during the Mad Dogs and Englishmen period and has played on records by Frank Sinatra, the Band, the Beach Boys, Ray Charles, and Bob Dylan, to name just a few. He arrives for a show at Buffalo Iron Works on Saturday, November 7.
