[ROCK] Lera Lynn’s recurring character on True Detective is that of a singer-songwriter hitting rock bottom, but there’s little carryover from that experience on her latest, Resistor. Which isn’t to imply the disc is full of blinding sun spots; it’s dark. But rather than continuing on the lush Americana pathway established with 2014’s The Avenues (and with the T Bone Burnett-produced tracks for True Detective soundtrack) the vocally understated Lynn and returning collaborator Joshua Grange have melded the twang with some indie-rock touchstones that the duo recorded entirely on their own. It sounds more like a Mazzy Star project than a record made in the heart of Nashville, and Lynn—even an independent creative spirit—seems to like it that way.
