Victor Wooten

[CLASSICAL] World renowned bassist Victor Wooten will join the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra for a special performance on Saturday, October 21 at 8pm and Sunday, October 22 at 2pm. Wooten and the BPO will perform Wooten’s symphony piece entitled The Bass Whisperer: Concerto for Electric Bass and Orchestra.” The 53-year-old bassist, composer, and five-time Grammy Award winner debuted the piece, which was written with composer Conni Ellisor, in 2014. Wooten looked at the prospect of writing a concerto for bass guitar as a challenge, he’s said in interviews. He also envisioned that performing the piece live would open up a  new and flexible avenue for touring and a way to engage a younger audience with classical music. “We wanted to stretch the boundaries of the classical world as well as the world where the electric bass lives, the jazz world, the R&B world,” Wooten said in an interview in 2014. The Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus will also join the BPO to perform Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor.
