[ELECTRONIC] Electronic music producer Douglas Appling, a.k.a. Emancipator has performed in Buffalo many times, but never like this. When he returns to the Town Ballroom on Sunday, October 18, he’ll do so as the leader of the Emancipator Ensemble. It’s not surprising that Appling, a well known electronic jam music producer, has gravitated toward more of a full band set up. Appling grew up studying the violin. He’s brought that knowledge of classical instrumentation to his music on trip hop albums like his 2006 debut Soon it Will Be Cold Enough, and this year’s Seven Seas, but it wasn’t until 2013 that Appling decided to bring these sensibilities to his live performance. Now his live show lands somewhere between rave and classical music concert, an odd combination that is brought together by a vibrant light show and the talent of his band mates. Ninja Tune recording artist Yppah will perform in support alongside solo act Wax Tailor.
