Beauty and Democracy: PPG 10-Year Anniversary

[PEOPLE’S PARTY] One is forgiven if, at this moment, democracy does not appear to be particularly beautiful. But we have more reason to celebrate progress than we have to lament the current retrograde movement. If you need evidence, get down to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery on Thursday, October 5, when the Partnership for the Public Good—a bastion in the progressive movement in this community—celebrates its 10-year anniversary with a party called Beauty and Democracy. Performance include Drea d’Nur invoking the spirit of Nina Simone, the Differential Flava Crew of Verve Dance Studio, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Carl Dennis, Cuban-born Buffalo poet Olga Karman, and remarks on “One Nation Under a Groove” by PPG co-founder Sam Magavern (an essay you can read here). The Partnership for the Public Good is a community-based think tank that builds a more just, sustainable, and culturally vibrant Buffalo Niagara through action-oriented research, policy development, and citizen engagement. And so naturally, this event is free and open to the public.
