Flux Pavilion

[ELECTRONIC/DANCE] U.K. twenty-something Joshua Kierkegaard G. Steele, a.k.a. Flux Pavilion, is yet another example of how having a background with some acoustic instruments positively informs a career in composing electronica. Steele’s experience playing drums helps him push for sophisticated rhythmic complexity, beginning with his earliest dubstep work, while his chops playing piano and sax give him a melodic leg-up. Fans have been reacting enthusiastically to a prolific stream of EPs and singles over the last six years, finally resulting in Tesla—his first full-length disc—out last week on the Circus label, which he co-founded. With guests like Afrika Bambaataa’s Soulsonic Force, vocal powerhouse Andrea Martin, and London MC Doctor, the disc is a musical cornucopia of tasty electro-morsels. Pop, house, EDM and reggae play well with each other through 13 tracks that show off Steele’s versatility. See how he manages it all live at Town Ballroom on Monday with support from fellow British Drum’n’Bass composer Mark Wilkinson and Diskord—a musical collaboration between Steele and fellow Circus Records founders Doctor P and Earl Falconer of UB40.
