[ELECTRONIC/DANCE] British DJ/Producer Joshua Mellody a.k.a Zomboy comes to us from the dubstep/EDM hybrid school that brought us Skrillex and Rusko, among others. Hailing from a small town near Cornwall, Mellody cut his teeth working as a sound engineer here in the states before heading home to regroup. Not long after, Zomboy emerged, named for a character in the game Left for Dead. His biting, in-your-face style is designed to get crowds bouncing — it’s aggressive and, well, maybe a little bloodthirsty.  It’s no surprise when you learn that his first musical love was metal. When he got to college, roommates helped expand his horizons, but that metallic grind still stirs at the base (bass?) of the records he’s cut for Never Say Die, the Oslo, Norway-headquartered label founded by SKisM that’s surely happy to have him aboard since he’s done quite well on the Beatport charts (Beatport being the Billboard of electronic dance music). Zomboy had all of one week to prep for his debut gig, which happened to be at Ministry of Sound in London… talk about nerves of steel. All that, and the man doesn’t drink or do any drugs, including the almighty weed. The foundation just might crack when he drops the bass at Town Ballroom on Friday, September 1 with openers Valentino Khan and Dr. Ozi.
