Paa Kow
[FUNK] It’s impossible to feel anything but happy while listening to the music of Paa Kow. Hailing from Ghana, West Africa, the musician delivers a euphoric, funky afrobeat style that’s equal parts Earth Wind and Fire and Fela Kuti. Even his lyrics will make you smile. “Black and white, it’s a good combo. Day and night, it’s a good combo,” he sings on his song “Black and White,” and now I’m convinced racial harmony in America is possible. And unlike your typical frontman, Paa Kow does his singing—in English and in his native language of Fante—from behind a drum set as he virtuosically percusses the shit out of everything within reach of a drum stick. His third album, Cookpot, will be released in October, so expect to hear some fresh material when the afro-fusion musician comes to Nietzsche’s for a special show with his eight piece band on Saturday, September 2. Local support comes from Preach Freedom and Connect.
