[HIP HOP] Kanye West is like the Donald Trump of hip hop. He has virtually no filter, he’s obtuse to some and sincere to others, and you pretty much either love him or hate him. His marketing campaign for his latest album, The Life of Pablo—either a reference to shape shifting artist Pablo Picasso or maybe the drug kingpin Pablo Escobar—seemed to strategically include a mental breakdown, but nonetheless, he continues to be one of, if not the most influential rapper in the world, on top of his career as a burgeoning fashion designer. His appeal crosses genres; he’s been known to sample some obscure stuff on his albums—on The Life of Pablo alone he managed to sample everyone from Arthur Russell, to Ghostface Killah, Mr. Fingers, the original soundtrack to the video game Street Fighter, and of course himself—pulling in music heads of all kinds. Kanye West will bring his The Saint Pablo to the First Niagara Center on Saturday, August 27.
