Goo Goo Dolls

[ROCK] On their latest tour run in support of their eleventh and latest album, Boxes, Buffalo’s pride and joy, the Goo Goo Dolls, return to their hometown. It’s been nearly 20 years since the Goo Goo Dolls gave us “Iris” and “Slide” – two of the early millennium’s most inviting sing along songs – off of their first fan-drawing album, Dizzy Up the Girl. This and subsequent collections boasted their staple anthemic pop rock lined with tight, yet relaxed instrumentals and heartfelt lyrics. From “Black Balloon” and “Better Days” to “Here Is Gone” and “Name,” the Goo Goo Dolls have remained a favorite across the nation. But nowhere do the Goo Goo Dolls enjoy the same relentless fandom than here in Buffalo. This will be the first show they’ve played since the departure of the trio’s long-standing drummer, Mike Malinin. He will of course be missed, but the songwriting, vocal stylings, and guitar work of John Rzeznik, which harness the outfit’s brand of sincerity, coupled with the sticky rhythmic formula by way of Robby Takac’s tight bass skills keep the Goo Goo Dolls strong, and us Buffalonians proud. Catch the Goo Goo Dolls with Collective Soul and Tribe Society at Darien Lake on Saturday, August 20
