Gov't Mule

[ROCK] There aren’t any sub-par projects with guitarist Warren Haynes involved. And especially since the Allman Brothers Band has folded, Haynes, now 57, has more time and energy to focus on his solo pursuits and his celebrated southern rock ensemble, Gov’t Mule. The latter has just released Revolution Come, Revolution Go, (Fantasy Records), a set of politically charged, driving tunes co-produced by Gordie Johnson and Don Was. Haynes does the lion’s share of the writing, which is both clever and snarky: this is one’ southern man’ who isn’t doing the Trump Thump. As a live quartet, Gov’t Mule rocks hard, but the new tunes are also steeped in the funk and blues idioms that have set the band apart from the beginning; surely that won’t get lost in the improv-heavy mix when they play at Artpark on Tuesday, August 8. Also on board is the New Orleans-based jam collective Galactic, known for its genre-defying, jazzy hodgepodge.
