[ROCK] For this gig, call him Bud. Music is apparently Billy Bob Thornton’s first love—the acting thing was a happy accident. Along the way, he released four solo albums and, in 2007, formed the Boxmasters with sound engineer JD Andrew. On their new disc, In Stereo, the band teamed up with legendary Revolver and Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band engineer Geoff Emerick for some more psychedelically-inclined vibes, but the garage-surf elements that have always been part of the band’s sound (the earliest material aside) remain. Thornton is an astoundingly talented character actor, and you get the impression this might be yet another role for him—but really, there’s nothing wrong with that.
