[ELECTRONIC/DANCE] In between dates at Movement Festival in Detroit, where she shared the stage with Caribou, Green Velvet, Four Tet, and others, and at Hard Music Festival in Fontana, California, where she’ll perform alongside acts like Major Lazer, DJ Khaled, and Ty Dolla $ign, the hard-techno master Rezz will bring it (close to) home for a set at Buffalo’s Sky Bar on Friday, July 15. The Niagara-Falls, Canada native—real name Isabelle Rezazadeh—has become internationally known for what Vice Magazine’s Thump called her “genre-smashing brand of dark and sinister techno.” MTV calls her the “queen of dark techno,” but it seems that all of this mainstream love tends to only push her music into deeper, stranger places (see her The Silence is Deafening EP from earlier this year, out on Deadmau5’s label Mau5trap), as if the 20-year-old is trying to see just how far she into the shadows she can pull the scene. Landing somewhere between Aphex Twin and Skrillex, Rezz has a future as bright, or dark, as she’s willing to make it.
