[INDIE] Singer/songwriter Kristian Matsson is not actually the Tallest Man on Earth (that’s eight-foot-three Sultan Kösen of Turkey)—it’s just a stage name. The combined height of his project, Tallest Man on Earth, has actually increased, though, since Matsson went from one-man band to full indie-folk ensemble for his latest tour, which is in support of the Swedish musician’s fourth LP, this year’s Dark Bird Is Home. Dark Bird, the follow-up to 2012’s There’s No Leaving Now is Tallest Man on Earth in full-on indie-rock mode, a logical progression for the former solo act, whose first record, Shallow Grave, was released in 2008. Dreamy synthesizers and rugged piano sounds work together to create the ethereal yet earthy sounds on Dark Bird. The last time Tallest Man on Earth came to Buffalo he played at Babeville’s Ninth Ward to a sold out crowd. Now, five year’s later, they’ll take their show to Babeville’s bigger room, Asbury Hall, on Wednesday, July 22, presented by ESI and Dan Smalls.
