Dave Matthews Band

[ROCK] Dave Matthews Band fans have been waiting for new music for six years – 2012’s Away From the World was their last release. Come Tomorrow was finally released earlier this month, and it’s as varied as the list of producers that oversaw the album. Perhaps most pleasing are the mature, singer-songwriterly numbers, “Here On Out” and “Black and Blue Bird,” but “Idea of You” presses all the best DMB buttons with a staccato-string foundation and a blissed out chorus, making for the more accessible track the band has turned out in well over a decade (and they’ve been playing it live for at least that long). The single “Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begin)” opens the set on a high note, providing the best balance between the giddy, festival-esque tones of their most celebrated work with the onset of mellowing middle age. Matthews, now 51, sounds very much like himself, indulging in left-field musical oddities like the growling “She” and the funky strut “Can’t Stop,”  both of which revel in the jam band idiom while also showing off the idiosyncrasies that make Dave Dave. Sadly, violinist Boyd Tinsley was fired from DMB last month due to some sexual misconduct allegations related to another band for which he did some production work, but the show must go on – at Darien Lake Amphitheater on Wednesday, June 27.
