[INDIE] Portland alt-folkies Blitzen Trapper’s All Across This Land ditches the chemistry experiment that permeated 2013’s VII in favor of a straightforward rocking feel that has classic FM revival stamped all over it. Channeling myriad excellent influences (Petty, Springsteen, Neil Young, Dire Straits, Jackson Browne, Grateful Dead), it’d be easy to dismiss this as a derivative people-pleaser, but front man Eric Earley remains every bit the clever storyteller he’s always been ( check out “Cadillac Road”). Alternating between jangle-pop anthems and something a little harder—an alt-country bent pervades—keeping the five-piece’s idiosyncratic musical approach alive and well while paying homage to their favorite influences. Tuesday, June 14 at Buffalo Iron Works.
