Tears for Fears

[POP] Everybody may want to rule the world, but at Artpark on Wednesday, June 14, Tears for Fears will be in charge. The Brit duo is taking a night off from their co-headlining trek with Hall and Oates to make a Western New York appearance, and why they’re not bringing the blue-eyed Philly-soul faves with them is a mystery. But Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, both 55, should have no problem filling the space. Since reuniting in 2000, they’ve only released one album of new material, but that hasn’t kept them from becoming a recurring summer-shed favorite, performing material mostly culled from the three albums they released between 1983-1989—a triumvirate of pop gems that collectively sold nearly 30 million records worldwide. For many here, this is a rain check on a show cancelled last year due to a family medical issue, so perhaps leaving Hall and Oates behind is a gesture for area fans, since it leaves open the possibility for a longer set (i.e., time will not be split between two headliners). Regardless, you can expect all the biggest hits with a few surprises, including the oft-overlooked “Advice for the Young at Heart” and a Radiohead cover.
