SpeakerFIRE Reunion Show

[ROCK] For me, hearing the name SpeakerFIRE brings back memories of CD-R singles, Purevolme.com, the Showplace Theater, Club Infinity, or maybe the Icon, and that old Afterdark message board—the king’s palace of shitposting for scene kids in Buffalo in the early 2000s. Most of these memories can’t be revisited—the clubs have come and gone (and in the case of Showplace, come again), and the message board has long since evaporated into the internet ether—but SpeakerFIRE’s Purevolume page is miraculously still alive, though unfortunately you’ll have to rely on an old CD-R copy of Audio Alchemy if you want to revisit their sludgy post-hardcore, as the MP3s have been removed. All that’s left is an old photo of the band, a link to a defunct Myspace page, and a list of New York and PA gigs they did in 2007 with bands like Hot Rod Circuit, Gracer, and Limbeck. If you dive into the depths of the internet you’ll find some grainy videos of Speakerfire rocking hard on stage at some local club, all of the members sporting the most emo of haircuts. It’s funny that we think that our internet footprint will last forever, but there’s surprisingly little left from only 10 years ago. At the same time, it’s amazing to think that it’s been almost that long since SpeakerFIRE has been active. This Saturday, June 10, however, the riff heavy post-hardcore band will reunite for a special show at the Studio at the Waiting Room, with friends The Traditional and The Soft Love. It’s unclear whether this is a one-off reunion or if the band is gearing up for a full on comeback, but either way, scenesters won’t want to miss this one.
