Sam Moss
[FOLK] For musician Sam Moss, musicality came before songwriting. Before he wrote his breakthrough album, Fable—self-released on May 6—his concentration was on virtuosic finger-picking guitar work. After eight albums released in an astonishingly short amount of time—beginning in 2009—his work has shifted from atmospheric instrumental guitar-folk to the purest form of song writing heard this side of the Mississippi. For Fable, the Boston-based artist teamed up with a full band for the first time, which includes electric guitarist Michael Roberts, bassist Jeff Murphy, and drummer Jesse Fox. That’s not to say anything was missing from Moss’ prior efforts, which were complex guitar compositions, but longtime fans will be surprised by how naturally and beautifully the guitarist inserts his voice into these more pop-composed songs. Moss is familiar with Buffalo and the silos, where he recorded a Silo Session video last June. He’ll return to Silo City on Sunday, June 5, this time for a live performance inside of Marine A, and this time it will be open to the public. Philadelphia’s Obody and Buffalo’s Much Band and Tenderlung will perform in support.
