Noo Phone in the Black Space

[AUGMENTED REALITY] There’s been some talk recently about Buffalo’s grain elevators at Silo City being turned into a national park one day and if and when that happens, let’s count on making sure that vision includes the cultural events that have brought so many people into that hallowed space in recent years. It’s been a proving ground for area and national artists, a place to experiment with the sonic and historic layers present along the Buffalo River. Case in point: an augmented reality performance by Buffalo artist Yvette Granata and Andrew Blanton of San Jose called “Noo Phone in the Black Space,” coordinated by the media arts engine Squeaky Wheel. On Thursday AND Friday, the pair will install and perform in a visual, sonic performance that transforms the grand halls of Silo City through emerging technologies that includes an ambient group text message, a vertical disorientation through camera-apps, a hand-held sonic immersion, and a modulation of ambient feedback of the Silos.
