[EMO] The Early November is the quintessential anti-punk emo band. After signing to the now-defunct California Drive-Thru label in 2002, New Jersey’s the Early November proceeded to turn our notions of punk upside down, defying the genre’s very core by stretching into musical territories both progressive and polished while still arguably remaining true to it on some level. One might attribute the band’s oddball studio experimentations with the fact that they’d barely established themselves as a live entity before securing the Drive-Thru deal—another unusual quality for a punk band. After an ambitious three-disc set in 2006, the Early November went on hiatus, finally emerging with 2012’s In Currents and three of its original members. The brand new Imbue, out earlier this month, brings them to the Waiting Room on Saturday, May 30 with Lydia and Restorations.
