GOJIRA with Deafheaven

[METAL] The musical output of France is not heavy metal heavy, though GOJIRA is one of the exceptions. Dubbed one of the “most extreme” bands hailing from the country, the four-piece band originally known as Godzilla, formed in 1996. Since then they’ve released a series of blistering groove metal albums on labels like Listenable and Roadrunner Records. Their latest, Magma, was nominated for the Grammys for Best Rock Album and Best Metal Performance, for their single “Silvera.” When GOJIRA comes to Western New York for a show at the Rapids Theatre on Tuesday, May 16, they’ll bring with them the critically acclaimed metal band Deafheaven. Praised by Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and NPR for their boundary-annihilating brand of black metal, notably on their 2013 album Sunbather and 2015’s New Bermuda, the band may be due for a new album soon—so don’t be surprised to hear some unreleased material. Code Orange is set to open the show.
