The Robert Glasper Experiment
[JAZZ] Talent like Robert Glasper’s is rare. The Houston, Texas-based crossover jazz artist is damn near virtuosic on his Fender Rhodes, releasing records like his latest, 2016’s ArtScience on famous jazz label Blue Note. His resume includes collaborations with a who’s who of artists from across genres—with Bilal, Lupe Fiasco, Yasiin Bey, Illa J, Erykah Badu, Hiatus Kaiyote, Stevie Wonder, and Kendrick Lamar (he played keys on To Pimp a Butterfly).
He also names artists like Radiohead and J Dilla as inspiration and has covered everyone from Miles Davis to Kendrick Lamar as part of his various projects. The project that he’s bringing to Buffalo, the Robert Glasper Experiment, focuses on the jazzy side of hip hop. If this isn’t enough to convince you that Glasper’s upcoming gig at the Rockwell hall Performing Arts Center at Buffalo State College is worth your time, I’m not sure what will.
