Vinyl Mania

[RECORDS] Record Theatre godfather Leonard Silver recently told Buffalo News that vinyl currently accounts for about 40 percent of sales at his two remaining stores. The same article reported that the once defunct wax platter has a 30% overall market share. It’s a far cry from the late 1990s when LPs were absent from music retail altogether, save for some tiny used music shops that somehow managed to survive (mainly on secondhand CD sales). Since we first reported on the birth of this new tradition, which sprung from a facebook group, Vinyl Mania has also grown considerably. Throwing a new Saturday-night-spin on the old Sunday-afternoon record convention model, local vinyl enthusiasts John Larson and Martin McGee have worked tirelessly to promote these events, which have definitely caused a buzz within the Western New York collectors community. This time out, the nighttime crate-digging splendor is being held at Buffalo Iron Works, setting the stage for an After Party live set from Bravado—a Tribute to the Music of Rush—which serves as a perfect end-cap to several hours of frenzied record collecting. Additionally, organizers have recruited an impressive list of sponsors who’ve donated goodies for giveaways throughout the evening: Speaker Shop, Peterwalkee Records, Taang! Records, Third Man Records, Light in the Attic Records, House of Guitars, Bloodshot Records, and  Amoeba Music have all sent their wares to help keep Vinyl Mania successful. It’s a fun night out for curious music fans and collectors alike, but remember, folks, the plural of vinyl is… vinyl. The record show is from 4pm to 9pm and Bravado follows at 10pm. Early bird admission is $10 for the first hour, and just $5 from 5pm onward, which includes the After Party show.

$5-$10
