[PUNK] It’s called Chim Chim Rises: The Return of the Monkey Tour, and it’s the first time that all of the original members of Fishbone will play together in some 25 years. The shows, which kicked off just last week in New Jersey, feature the celebrated 1996 concept album Chim Chim’s Badass Revenge played in its entirety, followed by a set of cherry-picked faves. For many, it’s taken 20 years to realize Fishbone’s contribution for the hybrid catalyst it was (and remains) – their unapologetic blending of funk and punk with metal and ska-tinged seasonings crossed barriers both musical and racial that helped open floodgates for many bands in their wake. Despite a contract with Sony, their records never made a lot of money—but Fishbone’s live shows have always been heralded as an all-in event. Sunday’s all ages gig at The Waiting Room should prove to be no exception with The Abruptors in the early slot.
