[BOXING] The Golden Gloves semifinals will visit the Rapids Theatre in Niagara Falls on Saturday, paying homage to that city’s own fistic history by bringing the best amateurs from all over the Upstate constellation to vie for a chance to advance in the national tournament. There’s 16 three round bouts scheduled at this point, with a handful of great matchups in the open class of more experienced amateurs. The highlight bouts: at 132 pounds, Mr. Saint Patrick Liam Grogan is matched against Buff State student Jeffrey Olingou; at 141 pounds the optician and former NY Gloves champ Ahmed Aliyev faces Chris Lee; at 152 pounds the sturdy and quick Messiah Miles has to deal with Buffalo’s Charles Garner, a St. John’s product, and at 165 pounds a rematch of last year’s great semifinal showing between Oluwatimilehin Akeredolu and Adenawal Ledesma.
