Local Natives
[INDIE] As much indie as they are pop, L.A.’s Local Natives come full circle on their latest album, Sunlit Youth. The album, released in September, leans back on their L.A. roots for its pop sensibilities but reaches out across the globe for influences that take those pop aspects to the next level. Recorded in various locations around the world—Thailand, Nicaragua—the album is anything but a “world music” record, but what they did seem to absorb from those surroundings was a sense of paradisiacal tangibility that comes across in their blissful productions. Maybe it’s the resolution that their last album, 2013’s more sober, pensive Hummingbird demanded, but on most of Sunlit Youth, the group sounds like they’ve reached a new stage of contentment. As one might imagine, the resurging group has a big spring and summer coming up, with dates at Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona, Spain, and Liverpool Sound Festival in Liverpool England, but first they’ll make a stop at Buffalo’s Town Ballroom for a show on Friday, March 17.
