Superstition: Punk & Hip Hop
[PUNK/HIP HOP] Punk and hip hop (especially alternative hip hop) aren’t so different. Of course they’re sonically different, but both genres—born in the 1970s, coming to maturity in the underground in the 1980s, and mainstream in the 1990s—have shared similar attitudes; alienation and frustration, self-enlightenment and rebellion. It makes sense then that the two seemingly different, yet underlyingly similar, genres of music would be mixed together at Superstition: Punk & Hip Hop showcase. Punk band Hot Tip will perform beside hip hop MC Timmy, enigmatic rapper Bagel Jesus, and electro hip hoppers Hooked on Casiophonics on Friday, March 13 at The Foundry on Northampton Street. Expect a photoboth from photographer Pierce McCleary and alongside some vegan friendly snacks. Proceeds to benefit local activist book shop Burning Books and Midwest political prisoner Jason Hammond, presented by DOPE Collective (Dismantling Oppressive Patterns for Empowerment).
