[ROCK] Hey Mavis’s Akron-based Americana stew just got more flavorful with the completion of What I Did—out this spring—which will surely comprise some of the set at Sportsmen’s Tavern this Friday, March 13.  The new collection pushes the trio—which expands into a five-piece for this northeastern excursion—further into genre-defying hybrids while keeping Laura Michele Caner’s supple pipes and dexterous banjo playing front and center. Returning producer Don Dixon (REM, Smithereens) is joined behind the boards by Yonder Mountain String Band’s Adam Aijala and Chuck Auerbach (Black Keys’ front man Dan Auerbach’s antique-dealing dad) for what sounds like a breakthrough set that blends jazzy timing, alt-rock energy, and uncompromising, rustic grit.
