Madd Tiki Winter Luau

[PARTY] To help Buffalonians take their minds off of this blustering winter and warm, visitors to the new RiverWorks event complex will be temporarily transported to a tropical oasis for the Madd Tiki Winter Luau. Mark Madden of Madd Tiki Tattoo, the mastermind behind this event—this Saturday, February 28, presented by Buffalo Rising—found the inspiration to create this one-of-a-kind party after taking trips to Polynesia and Hawaii and experiencing the culture, spiritual healing, and energy emitted from these islands.

“The Winter Luau highlights the juxtaposition of Buffalo’s frigid winter and the vibrant sounds and sights of tropical islands,” Madden says. This luau celebration will welcome a myriad of entertainment, including live music, dance troupes, tattooed models, roller derby, ice carvers, fire spinners, street artists, art installations, curling, skating and so much more.

The musical acts taking part in the event include some of Buffalo’s best, such as The Tins, Surfin Cadavers, DJ Optimus Prime with Cove, DJ Jon Lay and DJ Big Basha and Frosty Tone, and the Caribbean Extravaganza Steel Band. Preach Freedom from Rusted Root and One World Tribe will also grace the stage with his reggae group Preach Freedom and Connect. Shemika Charles, who performs with her family in the Steel Band, will also show off her amazing limbo dancing skills. She will be teaching participants how to limbo, while sharing a demonstration of her own. Additional dance groups include Foxy Diamondz, Fleuron Rouge (modern belly dancing), Red Flower Hula and Capoeira Dance Crew.
